BBC Proms Extra: the experimental session
Featuring live performances from:
Sugai Ken // Carl Stone + Akaihirume // Masanori Oishi + Emiko Miura
Hosted by Nick Luscombe (BBC Radio 3 / TOKYO FM / Musicity) + Ken Nishikawa (TOKYO FM) // DJ James Greer (nonclassical / Musicity)
As the BBC Proms arrives in Japan, we pay tribute to London’s experimental alt-classical scene: an underground network of adventurous young composers, performers, DJs, record labels, promoters, club nights, and even orchestras.
We’ve hand-picked a selection of local artists to perform alongside DJs direct from London, creating a musical dialogue that promises to challenge conventional notions of what it is to be classical.
Join us from 1830 for a discussion on the alt-classical scene featuring Flau, nonclassical, and others, followed by DJs and live performances from 1930.
Curated by Nick Luscombe and James Greer.
